The Broad Institute sequenced the Ciona savignyi genome at 13x coverage by whole genome shotgun (WGS) from a single individual with a high level of heterozygosity, estimated at 19%. Contigs and scaffolds were made from each separate haplotype, and the haplotype assemblies were compared to produce paired scaffold assemblies (PSAs). The assembly contains 164 Mb, which represents about 91% of the C. savignyi genome.
