ESTs from cDNA libraries constructed from auxin-treated, cytokinin-treated, and untreated gametophytes of P. patens have been sequenced at the National Institute of Genetics, Shizuoka, Japan. The sequences have been compared to A. thaliana genome and other vascular plants. Results indicate some moss specific genes that got lost during the process of evolution but 66% of the genes were found to be homologous.
University of Leeds (UK) in collabration with Washington University in St. Louis (USA) are also sequencing large scale ESTs from P. patens.
