The complete sequence of the olive fly, Bactrocera oleae, mitochondrial genome was determined at the University of Siena in Italy. The B. oleae mitochondrial genome is typical of insects. It encodes 13 proteins involved in oxidative phosphorylation, 22 transfer RNAs and 2 ribosomal RNAs. Two haplotypes from Italy and Portugal were sequenced, and differ by only 31 point mutations.
