The Leishmania major Friedlin consortium consists of The European Leishmania major Friedlin Genome Sequencing Consortium (EULEISH), the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (SBRI), and The Sanger Institute. Individual chromosomes have been isolated using pulsed field gel electrophoresis and were sequenced using a cosmid clone methodology in conjunction with a chromosomal shotgun method.
Sequencing of all 36 chromosomes has been completed and gap closure is almost finalized. The genome is currently being annotated and thus far 8,272 genes have been identified in the ~33 Mb haploid genome. All L. major strain Friedlin sequence data is available in GenBank and in RefSeq. Less...
