The Ovis aries whole genome shotgun (WGS) project has the project accession ACIV000000000. This version of the project (01) has the accession number ACIV010000000, and consists of sequences ACIV010000001-ACIV012351563.

This is a guided assembly of the sheep genome, using the bovine genome as the initial guide, as described at http://www.sheephapmap.org/genseq.php. Six females of different breeds were sequenced at 0.5x coverage by 454 FLX, the reads were aligned to the bovine genome and pooled and assembled into melded contigs in 1Mb bins, defined using the bovine genome assembly. These contigs were then ordered into ovine chromosomes, using BES and an updated virtual sheep genome built on the bovine genome framework (Dalrymple et al. Genome Biology 2007. 8:R152). The melded contigs are the 2,351,563 pieces of the first version of this WGS project, ACIV010000000.
