Craig Venter Institute (www.jcvi.org) is sequencing, assembling, and auto-annotating the genomes of approximately 165 marine microbes. These microbes were contributed by collaborators worldwide, and embody an array of physiological diversity, including carbon fixers, photoautotrophs, photoheterotrophs, nitrifiers, and methanotrophs. This work was designed to complement other ongoing research at JCVI and elsewhere to characterize the microbial biodiversity of marine and terrestrial environments through metagenomics profiling of environmental samples.
