The Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Schwarzengrund str. SL480 whole genome shotgun (WGS) project has the project accession ABEJ00000000. This version of the project (01) has the accession number ABEJ01000000, and consists of sequences ABEJ01000001-ABEJ01000067.

Salmonella Schwarzengrund is the predominant cause of salmonellosis in Southeast Asia, a major source of imported food products to the United States. It was also the cause of the first recognized outbreak of fluoroquinolone-resistant salmonellosis in the U.S. Recent reports suggest that high-level fluoroquinolone resistance is emerging in Salmonella Schwarzengrund in different parts of the world. This serovar is remarkably disposed to nosocomial spread, and presents a unique opportunity to identify factors that facilitate this important type of transmission. Strain SL480 (DBS_GA_F25499) is antibiotic susceptible and will provide a comparison for the MDR isolate being sequenced. Annotation was added to the contigs in August 2008.
