The organism is Caenorhabditis remanei Sudhaus, 1974; strain PB4641. This strain is derived from the wild isolate EM464. It was inbred in Scott Baird's laboratory for 20 generations by transferring one gravid female per generation. The strain EM464 was established with individuals collected from a pillbug (Armadillidium vulgare) in Brooklyn, New York, NY, USA in June 1990 by Scott Baird. EM464 was described as /Caenorhabditis vulgaris/Baird, Fitch & Emmons, 1994, which was later shown to be a junior synonym of C. remanei (Sudhaus & Kiontke 1996).
