The nomenclatural status of this name is complex - the attached reference argues that Gracilaria confervoides (L.) Greville 1830 should be considered a synonym of Gracilaria verrucosa (Hudson) Papenfuss. AlgaeBase lists it as a synonym of Gracilaria gracilis (Stackhouse) Steentoft, Irvine & Farnham.
