Sarcopterygii

The name Sarcopterygii has been used traditionally for the crossopterygians and dipnoans (the lobe-finned fishes). In this database the name Sarcopterygii is used to define the monophyletic group that includes the tetrapods and the lobe-finned fishes. This usage follows Nelson (1994) [Fishes of the World. Third edition. John Wiley and Sons, NY] and earlier authors cited by Nelson.
