Comments and References:

Noyes et al. (1997)
Recent evidence suggests that the lizard Leishmania species are more closely related to species in the subgenus Leishmania than to those in the subgenus Viannia. With the lizard Leishmania species nested within the genus Leishmaina, the genus name "Sauroleishmania" is not used anymore in the GenBank classification although the included species are still retrievably by that name.Noyes et al. (1997). The Leishmania hertigi (Kinetoplastida; Trypanosomatidae) complex and the lizard Leishmania: Their classification and evidence for a neotropical origin of the Leishmania-Endotrypanum clade.
