Agrobacterium vis-a-vis Rhizobium The type species of Agrobacterium was transferred to Rhizobium by Young et al. (2001). Consequently, the genus Agrobacterium would be included in the genus Rhizobium. However, this transfer is highly controversial (Farrand, 2003; Young, 2003). Given the contentious nature of the issue, the NCBI Taxonomy Database retains both genus names for use by submitters. For species names, priority in the Database is given to the original form of the validly published name (Agrobacterium OR Rhizobium ).
