Eremothecium gossypii = Ashbya gossypii
Kurtzman (1995) synonymized the genera Ashbya, Eremothecium, Holleya, and Nematospora and placed them in the genus Eremothecium. The results of this study were supported by the work of Prillinger et al. (1997) and Kurtzman & Robnett (2003). Therefore, the name Ashbya gossypii is a synonym of Eremothecium gossypii.
