Serratia liquefaciens is not Serratia proteamaculans
Grimont et al. (1981) present evidence that S. liquefaciens and S. proteamaculans are distinct species. Consequently, they are treated as such in the GenBank taxonomy database although Moore & Moore (1989, 1992) consider them synonyms following the rejection by the Judicial Commission (1986) of the request of Holmes (1980).
