Ichthyosporea or Mesomycetozoea
There are different opinions on whether the group originally referred to as the DRIP clade should be called Ichthyosporea or Mesomycetozoea. Some have suggested to emend Ichthyosporea Cavalier-Smith 1999 to Mesomycetozoea because the scope of characters found in the group is now wider than what was known originally (e.g., not all members of the taxon are fish pathogens (Ichthyo), chitin and chitin synthase genes have been reported in Ichyophonus sp. and Rhinosporidium seeberi, not all species develop monoflagellated cells). Others feel that certain changes in the composition and definition of the group do warrant a new name and have also reported that Mesomycetozoea has been confused with Mycetozoa, an unrelated group of eukaryotes containing e.g., Dictyostelium and Physarium. Some of the important references are found hotlinked below.
