Lotus japonicus
Although Lotus japonicus can be difficult to distinguish from L. corniculatus morphologically, it is diploid, in contrast to the tetraploid state of L. corniculatus; thus it is best to distinguish it as a distinct species from the heterogeneous L. corniculatus. (A. Liston, pers. comm., Jan. 31, 2006).
