This family consists of antimicrobial peptides secreted by scorpions. Novel antimicrobial peptides have been isolated from scorpions, namely the opistoporin and the pandinin. These peptides form essentially helical structures and demonstrate high antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria respectively.
