Shugoshin C terminus
Shugoshin-like proteins contain this conserved sequence at the C terminus, which is rich in basic amino-acids. Shugoshin (Sgo1) protects Rec8 at centromeres during anaphase I (during meiosis) so that sister chromatids remain tethered. Sgo2 is a paralogue of Sgo1 and is involved in correctly orienting sister-centromeres.
