pfam06130: PTAC (This model is not part of the current CDD release)
Phosphate propanoyltransferase
This family includes phosphotransacylases (PTACs) in particular PduL which is a specialised phosphotransacylase that plays a key role in the 1,2-propanediol utilisation (Pdu) pathway in certain bacteria. Unlike the more common phosphotransacetylase (Pta), PduL specifically catalyzes the reversible conversion of propionyl-CoA to propionyl phosphate. It is structurally distinct from Pta, representing a unique family of phosphotransacylases with a different protein fold and catalytic mechanism. PduL is often associated with bacterial microcompartments (BMCs), protein-based organelles that encapsulate specific metabolic processes.
