Herpesvirus UL17 protein
UL17 protein is required for DNA cleavage and packaging in herpes viruses. It has been shown to associate with immature B-type capsids, and is required for the the localisation of capsids and capsid proteins to the intranuclear sites where viral DNA is cleaved and packaged. In the virion, UL17 is a component of the tegument, which is a protein layer surrounding the viral capsid.
