The potyviridae family positive stand RNA viruses with genome encoding a polyprotein. members include zucchini yellow mosaic virus, and turnip mosaic viruses which cause considerable losses of crops worldwide. This family consists of a C terminus region from various plant potyvirus P1 proteins (found at the N terminus of the polyprotein). The C terminus of P1 is a serine-type protease responsible for autocatalytic cleavage between P1 and the helper component protease pfam00851. The entire P1 protein may be involved in virus-host interactions.
