This is the N protein of the nucleocapsid. The nucleocapsid functions to protect the RNA against nuclease degradation and to promote it's reverse transcription. The NC protein promotes viral RNA dimerization and encapsidation and initiates reverse transcription by activating the annealing of the primer tRNA to the initiation site.
