SET domain found in Arabidopsis thaliana histone H3-K9 methyltransferases (SUVHs) and similar proteins
Arabidopsis thaliana SUVH protein (also termed suppressor of variegation 3-9 homolog protein) is a histone-lysine N-methyltransferase that methylates 'Lys-9' of histone H3. H3 'Lys-9' methylation represents a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional repression. Some family members contain a post-SET domain which binds a Zn2+ ion. Most family members, except for Arabidopsis thaliana SUVH9, contain a post-SET domain which harbors a zinc-binding site.
