DEAH-box helicase domain of the chromodomain helicase DNA binding protein 6 Chromodomain-helicase-DNA-binding protein 6 (CHD6) is a DNA-dependent ATPase that plays a role in chromatin remodeling. It regulates transcription by disrupting nucleosomes in a largely non-sliding manner which strongly increases the accessibility of chromatin. It activates transcription of specific genes in response to oxidative stress through interaction with NFE2L2.2 and acts as a transcriptional repressor of different viruses including influenza virus or papillomavirus. During influenza virus infection, the viral polymerase complex localizes CHD6 to inactive chromatin where it gets degraded in a proteasome independent-manner. CHD6 is a member of the DEAD-like helicase superfamily, a diverse family of proteins involved in ATP-dependent RNA or DNA unwinding. This domain contains the ATP-binding region. |
