first malignant brain tumor (MBT) repeat found in MBT domain-containing protein 1 (MBTD1)
MBTD1 is a putative Polycomb group (PcG) protein that specifically binds to monomethylated and dimethylated 'Lys-20' on histone H4. MBTD1 contains four MBT (malignant brain tumor) repeats. The MBT repeat is a protein module that recognizes methylated lysine residues on histones. MBT repeats contain a semi-aromatic cage to accommodate methyllysine and show specificity towards the lower methylation states of lysine. This model corresponds to the first MBT repeat that contains a partially conserved semi-aromatic cage.
Feature 1:Pho/YY1 spacer binding site [polypeptide binding site]
Evidence:
Structure:4C5I; Homo sapiens MBTD1 binds transcriptional repressor protein YY1 spacer region through its first MBT repeat; contacts at 4A
Comment:Pho/YY1 transcriptional regulators contain an N-terminal highly conserved spacer region (also known as the REPO domain), a novel interacting motif that tightly binds to dSfmbt family proteins
