Periplasmic binding component of a family of basic membrane lipoproteins from Borrelia and various putative lipoproteins from other bacteria. These outer membrane proteins include Med, a cell-surface localized protein regulating the competence transcription factor gene comK in Bacillus subtilis, and PnrA, a periplasmic purine nucleoside binding protein of an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transport system in Treponema pallidum. All contain the type 1 periplasmic sugar-binding protein-like fold.
