Sporidiobolus salmonicolor NADPH-dependent aldehyde reductase 1 (ARI, EC 1.1.1.2), Trichosporonoides megachilieni NADPH-dependent erthyrose reductase (ER) 1/2 and 3, are founding members of aldo-keto reductase family 3 member B1 (AKR3B1), B2 (AKR3B2), and B3 (AKR3B3), respectively. Sporidiobolus salmonicolor NADPH-ARI, also called alcohol dehydrogenase [NADP(+)], or aldehyde reductase I, or ALR 1, catalyzes the asymmetric reduction of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes and ketones to an R-enantiomer. It reduces ethyl 4-chloro-3-oxobutanoate to ethyl (R)-4-chloro-3-hydroxybutanoate. Trichosporonoides megachilieni NADPH-ERs catalyze the reduction of D-erythrose.
