Thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) family, Pyruvate oxidase (POX) subfamily, TPP-binding module; composed of proteins similar to Lactobacillus plantarum POX, which plays a key role in controlling acetate production under aerobic conditions. POX decarboxylates pyruvate, producing hydrogen peroxide and the energy-storage metabolite acetylphosphate. It requires FAD in addition to TPP and a divalent cation as cofactors.
