Thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) family, Xsc-like subfamily, TPP-binding module; composed of proteins similar to Alcaligenes defragrans sulfoacetaldehyde acetyltransferase (Xsc). Xsc plays a key role in the degradation of taurine, catalyzing the desulfonation of 2-sulfoacetaldehyde into sulfite and acetyl phosphate. This enzyme requires TPP and divalent metal ions for activity.
