The predicted protein-sorting transpeptidase that we call exosortase (see TIGR02602) has distinct subclasses that associated with different types of exopolysaccharide production loci and/or different taxonomic lineages. We designate this relatively divergent cyanobacterial type to be type 3. We propose the gene symbol xrtC. This type coexists with a TIGR02602-recognized form in Nostoc sp. PCC 7120.
