ribosomal protein S6 The ribosomal protein S6 ortholog family, including yeast MRP17, shows more than two-fold length variation from 95 residues in Bacillus subtilis to 215 in Mycoplasma pneumoniae. This length variation comes primarily from poorly conserved C-terminal extensions that are particularly long in the Mycoplasmas. MRP17 protein is a component of the small ribosomal subunit in mitochondria, and is shown here to be an ortholog of S6. [Protein synthesis, Ribosomal proteins: synthesis and modification]
