Baculovirus polyhedron envelope protein, PEP, N-terminus
Polyhedra are large crystalline occlusion bodies containing nucleopolyhedrovirus virions, and surrounded by an electron-dense structure called the polyhedron envelope or polyhedron calyx. The polyhedron envelope (associated) protein PEP is thought to be an integral part of the polyhedron envelope. PEP is concentrated at the surface of polyhedra, and is thought to be important for the proper formation of the periphery of polyhedra. It is thought that PEP may stabilize polyhedra and protect them from fusion or aggregation.
