This HMM describes a second family of N-alpha-acetyl-L-2,4-diaminobutyrate deacetylase, unrelated to the previously recognized DoeB described in TIGR02994. Because of the lack of homology, we reassign the gene symbol for this family from doeB to doeB2 in the interest of clarity. Ectoine is a compatible solute commonly used in halotolerant bacteria. This family was reported in halotolerant methylotrophs.
