class III lanthipeptide Members of this family are class III lanthipeptides, most likely active as lantibiotics. They average about 43 amino acids in length, with two conserved Cys residues, the second of them often appearing as the final residue. The family lacks the GlyGly motif that many other RiPP precursors have as the cleavage site between leader peptide and core region. The designation III_b indicates that it is the second family defined here with no characterized member but with members in the collection of putative class III lanthipeptides reported by Walker, et al. (PMID:32493223). The family has some overlap with the SapB/AmfS family of class III lanthipeptides (NF033212 ) and with the lanthi_III_a family (NF038154).
