BriC (Biofilm-Regulating peptide Induced by Competence), as characterized in Streptococcus pneumoniae, is a cell-cell communication peptide, or peptide pheromone, that is induced by expression of ComE (a master regulator of competence). BriC contributes to biofilm formation, and to colonization in a mouse mole.
