The sequence of this gene is defined by 392 GenBank accessions from 346 cDNA clones, some from visual cortex (seen 16 times), whole body (16), embryonic stem cell (13), blastocyst (12), eye (10), mammary (10), pancreas (10) and 71 other tissues. We annotate structural defects or features in 8 cDNA clones.
Alternative mRNA variants and regulation: The gene contains 18 distinct introns (17 gt-ag, 1 gc-ag). Transcription produces 10 different mRNAs, 8 alternatively spliced variants and 2 unspliced forms. There are 3 non overlapping alternative last exons and 2 validated alternative polyadenylation sites (see the diagram). The mRNAs appear to differ by truncation of the 5' end, truncation of the 3' end, presence or absence of 2 cassette exons, overlapping exons with different boundaries, splicing versus retention of 4 introns. 3271 bp of this gene are antisense to spliced gene Srr, raising the possibility of regulated alternate expression.
3 variants were isolated in vivo, despite the fact that they are predicted targets of nonsense mediated mRNA decay (NMD).

Isoform Tsr1.cSep07 is annotated using as Met a Kozak-compatible a..AAG. start, thereby gaining 75 amino acids N-terminal to the first AUG.
