- Summary
- This gene encodes a component protein of the APC complex, which is composed of eight proteins and functions as a protein ubiquitin ligase. The APC complex is a cyclin degradation system that governs exit from mitosis. Each component protein of the APC complex is highly conserved among eukaryotic organisms. This protein and two other APC complex proteins, CDC23 and CDC27, contain a tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR), a protein domain that may be involved in protein-protein interaction. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified. [provided by RefSeq]

1. |
We report gene alterations in several components of this complex in human colon cancer cells, including APC6/CDC16 and APC8/CDC23 which are known to be key function elements. |

2. |
TFDP1, CUL4A, and CDC16 are probable targets of an amplification mechanism and therefore may be involved, together or separately, in development and/or progression of some hepatocellular carcinomas |
Homology
Homologs of the CDC16 gene The CDC16 gene is conserved in chimpanzee, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, fruit fly, mosquito, S.pombe, S.cerevisiae, K.lactis, E.gossypii, M.grisea, N.crassa, A.thaliana, and rice.

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes
These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain
These reference sequences are curated
independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq
versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the
version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products
above.
