SYNTHESIS OF ALPHA-LINOLENIC ACID BY LEISHMANIA ENRIETTII.

Abstract

The zooflagellate Leishmania enriettii synthesizes alpha-linolenic acid as determined by experiments with stearic acid uniformly labeled with C(14). This is the first demonstration of the synthesis of alpha-linolenic acid by a nonphotosynthetic organism.
