This figure also depicts the meta-analysis of the impact of injectable low molecular weight heparin prophylaxis versus injectable or oral direct thrombininhibitor prophylaxis on major bleeding leading to reoperation in patients who had major orthopedic surgery limited to trials published from 2001-present. Three trials were included in the analysis with all three trials contributing two separate comparisons presented individually here. The first trial by Ginsberg and colleagues in 2009 included two comparisons. The first comparison provided a relative risk of 4.01 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 0.30 to 53.90. The second comparison provided a relative risk of 3.95 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 0.29 to 53.04. The second trial by Eriksson and colleagues in 2007 included two separate comparisons. The first comparison provided a relative risk of 1.01 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 0.18 to 5.69. The second comparison provided a relative risk of 1.49 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 0. 24 to 9.40. The third trial by Eriksson and colleagues in 2007 included two separate comparisons. The first comparison provided a relative risk of 1.01 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 0.08 to 13.59. The second comparison provided a relative risk of 0.33 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 0.03 to 3.53. The combined effect of the three trials provided a relative risk of 1.27 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 0.43 to 3.75. The I-squared value was 0 percent and the Egger's p-value was 0.614.
