Treatment for permanent AF

The aims of heart rate control are to minimise symptoms associated with excessive heart rates and prevent tachycardia-associated cardiomyopathy. A recent consensus statement has suggested a target resting heart rate of less than 90 bpm and less than 180 bpm during exercise in patients with AF.
