Infected spontaneous chylothorax

Diagn Microbiol Infect Dis. 1998 Jan;30(1):31-2. doi: 10.1016/s0732-8893(97)00179-x.

Abstract

Infection of a chylothorax is thought not to occur because chyle is inherently bacteriostatic. We report a case of an infected chylothorax occurring in an immunocompromised patient with pneumonia. To our knowledge, this is the first description of such a case.
