[Oral transmuscular adenoma removal of the submandibular gland].

[Article in German]

Author information

  • Nordwestdeutsche Kieferklinik, Universitätskrankenhauses Eppendorf, Hamburg.

The technique described for the removal of an adenoma in the submandibular gland through an oral-transmuscular approach is based upon the description of Wassmund and Trauner. Results of the authors with eight operations between 1992 and 1993 and the experiences of the Nordwestdeutsche Kieferklinik of Eppendorf University in Hamburg show that the technique used is able to prevent significant scarring and injuries to the lingual and facial nerves. The technique can be used to remove benign tumors of the submandibular gland if they are not too large. Contraindications include microgenia, trismus, extensive inflammation and malignant tumors.
