A patient with intestinal anthrax, the first documented surviving patient to be described in detail, presented with an acute condition within the abdomen. Intestinal anthrax should be considered in the differential diagnosis of abdominal conditions in areas in which anthrax is prevalent, especially when a history is available of ingesting putrid or improperly cooked meat.
