Demodicosis in dairy goats.

Multiple nodular skin lesions on an adults Saanen doe were found to be caused by demodectic mites. An identical condition developed in the daughter of the affected goat despite separation from the mother at 24 hours after birth. Of 7 other goats in contact with the doe, 2 had a few demodectic nodules. Of 84 goats examined at a local show, 7 (from 4 herds) were similarly affected. The observations suggested that the nodular form of demodicosis is widespread in Michigan dairy goats and that perinatal transmission may occur..
