The hospice: its meaning to patients and their physicians

Hosp Pract (Off Ed). 1981 Jun;16(6):93-108. doi: 10.1080/21548331.1981.11946786.

Abstract

Terminal care, whether provided in the hospice, hospital, or home, must be integrated with the best of medicine. The role of the physician is not diminished when the focus shifts from curing to caring and when the goal is enhancement of the quality of the patient's remaining life, rather than its prolongation. The embodiment of this concept in London's St. Christopher's Hospice is described.
