Abstract

The distant-optical interaction of the mitochondria through a guartz partition was studied. The effect of the interaction was evaluated from the change in the rate of oxygen consumption by the mitochondria. There was a significant lowering of oxygen consumption by the mitochondria during their optical contact with other mitochondria. The effect is assumed to be associated with a super-weak UV radiation that appears in the course of mitochondrial metabolism.
