Observations on the theoretical bases for seclusion of the psychiatric inpatient.

    Abstract

Contemporary controversy concerning the seclusion of psychiatric inpatients is focused primarily on the issues of civil rights and behavior control. The author believes that we are in danger of losing sight of the therapeutic aspects of this treatment modality. He offers a brief review of the theoretical and clinical rationale for seclusion.
