[Contraception through the use of intravaginal spermicides during the post-partum period]

    [Article in French]

    Leroy B, Serror R.

PIP: The authors have investigated contraception postpartum in a group of 508 women through the use of the spermicidal suppository Pharmatex. This preparation is totally innocuous, slightly lubricating, is well accepted by users, and has yielded a Pearl index of 0.25 over a total of 4000 cycles. This type of contraception is indicated for postpartum women since the risk entailed by estroprogestational agents is even greater at this time, and the IUD is not advisable at least until the uterus has returned to its normal position.
