Pathological gambling and major affective disorder: preliminary findings.

    Abstract

Twenty-five pathological gamblers were examined for additional DSM-III diagnoses and family history of psychiatric illness. Eighteen subjects (72%) had experienced at least one episode of major depression, and 13 (52%) had recurrent major affective episodes. A high prevalence (20%) of panic disorder and/or agoraphobia was also found.
