The IMZ osteointegrated implant system.

Abstract

From September 1978 to September 1988, a total of 3088 IMZ implants have been placed in 1401 consecutive cases in our clinic to restore partially or totally edentulous arches. Of the total number of implants placed, 334 implants, or 10.8 per cent, were lost to follow-up (patient death, relocation, so forth). If these implants are excluded from the implant population database, 2754 IMZ implants continue to be followed in routine recall examination. During the reporting period, a total of 61 IMZ implants were removed, primarily because of soft-tissue complications. Therefore, the overall implant rate of success of the implants placed and routinely followed over this 10-year period is 97.8 per cent.
